Gippsland Lakes Fishing Report

Lakes Entrance: Reeves Channel and around Flannigan’s island for Whiting and School Shark. The town jetties for Trevally on blue bait. Some Luderick also from the town jetties and rock walls, taking local weed. Offshore for Pinkies, Gummies on pilchard and squid. The surf for Salmon.

Lake Tyers: Blackfellows Arm for Bream, taking prawn. 35cm Pinkies are not far up into Toorloo Arm taking prawn. From Camerons Arm and down to Mud island in the shallows for Bream on prawn. Salmon from the surf taking pilchard and lures.

Mitchell River: From the Highway Bridge they are getting Perch on plastics and hard bodied lures. Eagle Point and towards The Cut for Bream. Best baits are spider crab and prawn.

Tambo River: From Sardine flats to Rough Road and heading toward Clues Bluff are the best spots for Bream with prawn being the best bait.

Nicholson: From The Reeds and up to Car Bodies, Bream are being caught on prawn.

Metung: On the Boardwalk and town jetties and up to Shaving Point for Bream with the best results from prawn. There have been dolphins about so fishing could be patchy.

Paynesville: Newlands Arm, The Straits and boat ramps are producing some Bream and Mullet taking prawn and worm. The surf at Ocean Grange for Salmon on pilchard and poppers. Also try squid for Gummies.

Hollands Landing: Spoon Bay, Griffin Point and up to the Wood Pile are good areas for Bream, bait of choice being crab and prawn.

Marlo: From the island and down to Motts Beach for Bream on shell and prawn. Some Luderick are also about. The surf for Salmon and Tailor taking pilchard and poppers. Offshore for Pinkies, Gummies and the odd Kingfish, taking pilchard and squid.

Tamboon Inlet: From Fisherman’s Landing, Peach Tree Creek and down to Pelican Point for Bream on prawn and plastics. The surf beach has Salmon on pilchard and poppers.

Bemm River: Good Luderick are to be had up river on sandworm. In the Lake is best for Bream on vibes and plastics. The surf for Salmon on squid and poppers.

Mallacoota: Offshore for Gummies and Flathead on pilchard and trevally fillets. The Big Bream Comp. was held mid- week with good results in both Lakes using lures. The main wharf for Trevally and Flathead on blue bait.

Omeo High Country: Dartmouth Dam and Ponds are the only places to fish now as the Trout season is closed until the first Saturday in September. Dartmouth Comp. last week had over 1,000 fish being caught, all around 1kg with lures, tassy devil and soft plastics as preferred bait.
