Gippsland Lakes Fishing Report

Lakes Entrance: The town jetties have Whiting, Luderick and Trevally, the rock wall also has Trevally with the best bait being prawn, worm and blue bait. The surf has some Salmon taking lures and poppers. At Six Mile Reef, Pinkies, Gurnard and Morwong are taking pilchard and squid.

Lake Tyers: The main beach and The Bluff have Salmon on silver lures and poppers. Blackfellows Arm, the power lines and up to Black Snake Bight are worth a look for Bream on Lures and live floating prawn. Toorloo Arm for Trevally.

Mitchell River: Estuary Perch have returned to the Highway Bridge and are taking hard bodied lures. From Shadoff Lodge, Eagle Point and down to Two Bells for Bream on soft plastics, spider crab and prawn

Tambo River: Bream are about, so try Sandy’s Bluff, Punt House Point and down to the Three Gums. Best baits are floating prawn and shrimp, soft plastics close to the river bank and snags.

Nicholson: From The Reeds and up to The Car Bodies for Bream up to 35cm. Bait of choice being prawn.

Metung: Fishing is a bit quiet and patience is required, areas to try are Chinamans Creek, up to Box’s Creek, Lake King Jetty to Shaving Point. Dolphins and seals are about the town jetties.

Paynesville: Town jetties and The Strait have Bream, Mullet and some Trevally, best bait is shrimp, worm and peeled prawn.

Hollands Landing: The Wood Pile, Medusa and Griffin Points and either side of the entrance for Bream and Mullet, taking worm and soft shell, also try trolling for Tailor on silver lures.

Marlo: Try around the island, Lake Corringle and down the French’s Narrows for Bream, Luderick and Mullet. Bait to use is local prawn and worm. The surf for Salmon on poppers and pilchard.

Tamboon Inlet: Peachtree Creek and Fisherman’s Landing for Bream and Mullet, they prefer peeled prawn and worm.

Bemm River: The entrance is now open but fishing is patchy, some Bream have been taken in the lake on peeled prawn and worm. The surf has Salmon.

Mallacoota: From Cape Horn, Gypsy Point and right up the Top Lake has Bream on Bass yabbies. Some Trevally at the main wharf and Fisheries Jetty on pippis and pilchard. Salmon are about on the surf beach.

Omeo High Country: It is now a “closed season” until 1st Saturday in September, 2015.
